today, i have created an actual robot, one capable of some level of autonomie. once the ultrasonic sensor detects anything within 10 cm, it reverses, and then turns on a weird angle, meaning it cant get stuck in an endless loop (provdided it doesnt get stuck on anything, wich it frequently does). This means that, say, if it were put into a circular arena, with one exit, it would, eventually, get out.
